You may have heard people talking about coaching. You may even have some ideas on what you think coaching is. After all, we all know about tennis coaches, football coaches or voice coaches, to name a few. In that sense a coach is someone who has expertise in a specific area and helps or ‘coaches' another person to hone their skills in order to be better at something.

Personal Performance Coaching, on the other hand, is about a one-to-one conversation to help a person move from where they are now, to where they want to be in any area that matters to their life. It raises self-awareness and helps:

  • Unlock your hidden potential.

  • You to achieve a specific goal(s)

  • You to achieve clarity in defining your goals or passions based on your values more quickly and effectively than if you acted alone.


A goal can be about anything that is important to you, from career development to weight loss; from relationship issues to learning new skills, like a new language, etc. The possibilities are endless and as individual as you are.

What is that thing you’ve been talking about doing for years? What has stopped you? Coaching is for the “worried well.” Everybody has goals, some big, some small. For example, getting healthier, reconciling a relationship, starting a business, managing your time effectively, getting that promotion, learning a new language, preparing for marriage!

The effectiveness of coaching is due in large part, to the rapport and relationship between the coach and the client, and the coach’s belief about the client’s potential as opposed to their current performance.

The coaching relationship increases your self-awareness and enables you to recognise and understand the reasons why you make the decisions you do, or reasons for lack of action in moving towards achieving your goals. With this awareness, you are able to understand your strengths and support network, and also address any barriers or obstacles and move in the right direction.

Your first session will be an intake session in which we will talk about your preferred method of contact, your communication style, values, beliefs and generally about the things that are important to you. We will also agree on the number of sessions you will initially commit to.


A coaching session typically takes between 45 minutes and an hour and roughly takes the following structure:

  • The client will phone/Skype the coach, or if previously agreed, will meet the coach at an agreed location.

  • If there was any pre-coaching paperwork that will be discussed.

  • There will be a brief review of the actions that the client committed to in the previous session.

  • There will be a brief discussion about the client’s expectations.

  • The client will inform the coach about their goal, and through observation, talking, listening and questioning the coach and the client will go over the client’s reality, options and ways of moving forward.

  • By the end of the session, after discussing and addressing potential obstacles, the client will have committed to some actions that will move them closer to their goal. These actions should be completed (or at least begun) by the next session.

  • The coach and the client will agree on a date/time for the next session.
